In a dramatic turn of events during the ongoing Parliament Winter Session, Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien has been suspended from participating in the remaining sessions for what is termed as “gross misconduct” and “defying the Chair.”

The suspension was adopted through a motion in the Upper House, following a face-off between O’Brien and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. The altercation ensued after O’Brien insisted on discussing the recent security breach incident, where two individuals breached Parliament security, releasing yellow smoke canisters.

Rajya Sabha Chairman named O’Brien and instructed him to leave the House. Despite the warning, O’Brien and other opposition members continued their protest, demanding the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address the security breach incident.

Simultaneously, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has taken action, suspending eight personnel responsible for the security breach. These individuals are identified as Rampal, Arvind, Vir Das, Ganesh, Anil, Pradeep, Vimitt, and Narendra.

The security breach occurred during the Zero Hour on the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament terror attack when two intruders entered the Lok Sabha chamber, releasing yellow gas and shouting slogans before being subdued by MPs.

Opposition members in the Lok Sabha raised slogans demanding a government statement on the security breach issue. Speaker Om Birla emphasized the Lok Sabha Secretariat’s responsibility for Parliament complex security, asserting, “It is our jurisdiction.”

Union Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the House, condemning the incident and urging caution against those who disturb parliamentary proceedings.
