In the aftermath of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) successfully dismantling five international human trafficking modules across ten states, Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed commendation for the operation, emphasizing the government’s unwavering commitment to a “zero-tolerance approach” towards illegal immigration.

Shah, articulating the pursuit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a secure Bharat, lauded the NIA’s simultaneous operations resulting in 44 arrests. Extending congratulations to the NIA team, Shah asserted, “The Modi government remains resolute in its zero-tolerance stance on illegal immigration, dedicated to safeguarding the nation from this peril.”

The NIA’s extensive operation, conducted in over four dozen locations, targeted a human trafficking syndicate facilitating the infiltration and settlement of Rohingya refugees in India through the Indo-Bangladesh border. The agency, under the directives of Amit Shah following Assam’s exposure of the racket earlier this year, has registered four cases to unravel a purported larger nexus.

Officials, requesting anonymity, disclosed plans to collaborate with Bangladeshi authorities to identify middlemen and key players involved. Assam’s Director General of Police, G P Singh, highlighted the grave national security concern posed by a pan-India network of touts aiding the entry of Rohingya refugees. Singh underscored the operation’s initiation in February when Rohingya migrants were intercepted at Karimganj railway station, revealing the intricate web of touts operating across the country.
