In a recent development from Washington, it has been disclosed that Commander, the two-year-old German Shepherd belonging to US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, has been ousted from the White House premises following multiple biting incidents. Reports from CNN and Axios shed light on a series of biting occurrences, beyond what was initially acknowledged by the Secret Service.
In response to these incidents, Elizabeth Alexander, the communications director for First Lady Jill Biden, affirmed the couple’s profound concern for the well-being of White House staff and security personnel. She expressed their gratitude for the support of the US Secret Service and other parties involved, as they diligently explore potential solutions to address the matter.
For the time being, Commander is no longer within the White House vicinity, while deliberations are underway regarding his future dwelling. It remains uncertain whether this separation is permanent or temporary.
Commander’s last public appearance at the White House was noted on September 30 when he was observed on the Truman balcony within the president’s private quarters. The Bidens have attributed their pets’ spirited behavior to the demanding atmosphere of the White House.
This development marks the second time a German Shepherd owned by the Bidens has been relocated due to biting incidents, following Major’s departure to live with family friends in Delaware. Their cherished dog, Champ, sadly passed away in 2021 at the age of 13.
In December 2021, Commander was introduced to the public with great enthusiasm, with President Biden extending a warm welcome to the canine companion in a tweet accompanied by an image of the puppy joyfully clutching a tennis ball in his mouth. The details of Commander’s current whereabouts remain undisclosed.
